THE ESSENTIALS OF WELLNESS STARTED AS A STUDY OF ME FOR MYSELF
It was born out of necessity.
I’ve spent most of my life learning how to manage a body that requires more nuance than standard advice allows.
Aches and pains that didn’t respond to conventional explanations or fixes.
Weight gain that made no sense given how carefully I was eating and moving. Energy that kept shrinking no matter how “healthy” I tried to be.
So I did what we are told to do. I asked for help.
What I found instead of help nothing short of exhausting.
Buckets and buckets of pills to choke down as stand-alone answers.
Eating plans that caused unwanted weight gain simply from the stress of trying to maintain them.
Blank stares when I asked tough questions about how my body actually works.
The holistic health guidance I was given didn’t translate to my body.
It seemed that all the wellness gurus claimed certainty in their approaches, but the results didn't match their hype.
What appeared to help others often created more strain in my system.
Sensitivity was treated as failure instead of information.
And the medical system was worse.
Dismissive. Arrogant. Rushed.
If it didn’t fit neatly into what insurance paid for, it wasn’t worth discussing.
Drugs, tests, or simply removing the organ. That was the menu.
None of them really helped me understand my body. None of what they offered taught me how to work withit.
At a certain point, I realized that no one I was consulting had more experience with my body than I did.
As the one living in it, I had the clearest view of how it responds.
So I finally stopped outsourcing my authority.
I began studying how the body regulates itself. How stress, inputs, movement, emotions, detox capacity, and recovery interact over time. I learned how to recognize overload before it becomes breakdown. I focused on approaches that support function instead of forcing outcomes.
That process fundamentally changed my relationship with my body. (And no, it didn’t come with a tidy before-and-after photo. Because real healing doesn’t start with appearance. It starts with regulation. With stability. With a body that can finally process instead of constantly compensate.)
